reflection
Feb. 6th, 2025 10:45 amI’m a laid back person but even I have my limits.
It’s easy to criticize the right. But I’ve been saying for years that those of us who are left of center also need to engage in self-reflection and thought about how we present our ideas.
Telling others they’re bad people for not perfectly conforming to our views does nothing but frustrate them, turn them away. The high-minded SJW ‘10s are over. We’re in the grim ‘20s and we need all kinds of good hearted folks to help each other.
The attitude of “I’m not here to make friends and I'm better than you!” works… until the money runs out. Or people no longer want to be around you or support your projects. And when you alienate everyone, then what?
If we are to survive as the group that wants to represent a civilized point of view, we need to get away from purity tests and hostility toward imperfect people who make mistakes.
I swear to dog there are people who need to get away from the computer and need to pick up a musical instrument and fucking rock out with others in a band. Punk rock happened for a reason and it needs to make a comeback.
Please get into your community and get in touch with reality of humans who need help, or at the very least, scroll by and refrain from the constant moralizing. Instead of busting people’s chops about boycotts, network with neighbors and local merchants, make your own clothes, cook for others, or if you have the courage, organize a general strike.
And if you’re not willing to help or to be kind, then please scroll past while the rest of us try to figure out how to get through the current and future challenges.
