Thinking about Ancient Greek myth and the concept of hubris.
Unfortunately, self-reflection and a realistic assessment of one’s abilities is currently seen as a weakness…
…when that reflection process is actually a sign of emotional strength and psychological adulthood.
Self-reflection and assessment function as protections against hubris which as the old Greeks knew, is a person’s and a society’s downfall.
The moment you declare yourself the greatest thing since sliced cheese is the moment your self-destruction starts.
And again, unfortunately, those afflicted with hubris end up taking others down with them during their downfall.
The tragedy repeats until we finally wake up.
