Today went to a favorite place that’s about to close—the 99 Cents store.
I’ve been shopping at 99 Cents stores for over twenty years and appreciated every trip. When I was first getting established all those years ago, shopping there was a real budget saver. A bag of basic household and personal care items with treats like a cute cup or a box of tea was only $20. I continued to shop there even after I had a regular income because I was able to save the money that I would rather use elsewhere.
The location I went to today was about half full, with empty shelves roped off. Not much to choose from though, so I got cleaning supplies then bid a fond farewell to a place that sustained me through the ups and downs of those twenty years.
The closing means one less option for people on a budget. I feel for the staff too, because some of the clerks at this location have worked there for years.
