I grew up and came of age in the post-WWII era. The country flourished during these times.

We had more access to better living conditions, medical care, preventative care, jobs, housing, education, and an endless array of entertainment options. We saw the creation of technology previously dreamed of by science fiction authors become a part of our everyday lives, from microwaves for quick cooking to the computers in our pockets. We created bonds with allies in memory of the wars that devastated the world with the intent of preventing that level of devastation from occurring again.

And now I’m facing aging in a country where people seem very eager to throw all of those good things away. Not only throw away, but betray the work of the Greatest Generation.

And for what? Who benefits from throwing away the protections, rules, and customs that kept us safe, kept the air and drinking water clean, provided health care and education?

Who benefits really from throwing away the good things of the post-WWII world? Who really benefits from a policy of chaos?

I wish more people could think things through. But they didn’t, and here we are.

for good

I mean, what can we do in times like these?

For the longest time, my method was education: getting an education myself and then educating others.

But even with 80 years of education, and my own small role in that education, people didn’t listen. Or if they did listen, it was to use the history of the bad guys as a playbook.

And here we are. Generational trauma plus lack of emotional intelligence and lack of critical thinking all play factors in how we got here.

Right now, the only thing I can think of to do is… do things for the good.
