Happy New Year!

Stayed up late reading and working on my YT channel, then slept in.

Fortunately the rain is tapering off and the weather will clear up until the next system comes through on Saturday. After I finish writing the next group of posts, and pull myself together, I will go out for a while to touch (wet) grass.

Diet and exercise program starts today of course, LOL. But yeah, time to get back into the fitness routine I started last summer.

Gen Z

Yes, and that’s the downside of the internet as it become more entshittified: the pile on of trolls who want to stomp down anything that’s fun or unique. Dog forbid anyone be happy or be themselves!

And unfortunately, the downside of the social panopticon that social media has become. Stupid, angry people dump their negative energy on people who just want to live their lives.

And this is why I wouldn’t envy the younger generations but I do worry for them. They have burdens that we old ‘uns didn’t have to deal with, ones with a significant negative impact on their self-perception and mental health.

Back in my day, we had sayings like, stay weird, and don’t feed the trolls. Maybe it’s time to return to those ideas. Because negativity sure as shih ain’t working for folks.

Millennials

As someone who’s been on the internet a long time, sure I miss the old goofy memes that were peak Millennial.

Yet we can’t go back in time. As LIMC points out, memes are reactions to current events and trends.

It’s internet nostalgia: there seems to be an underlying, somewhat conscious awareness that society took a wrong turn, and people want that millennial optimism/goofy-ahh humor back because living in a grim dystopia where having a future is no longer a guarantee…sucks.

Gen X

And now, a pop culture event from my generation:

Pop culture trends and events don’t last forever, of course. I guess in this case, internet killed the video star. Except the network started its demise by turning to reality shows. They forgot who they were.

Anyway, MTV was an essential part of my Gen X life, from its launch in 1981 to the TRL days (and by then, I was watching the channel while working out in a gym).

So I’ve lived long enough to wait for a song to come on the radio, for the video to debut on MTV, and now to an era where every song is instantly available on demand. Wild.
