Pop culture trends and events don’t last forever, of course. I guess in this case, internet killed the video star. Except the network started its demise by turning to reality shows. They forgot who they were.
Anyway, MTV was an essential part of my Gen X life, from its launch in 1981 to the TRL days (and by then, I was watching the channel while working out in a gym).
So I’ve lived long enough to wait for a song to come on the radio, for the video to debut on MTV, and now to an era where every song is instantly available on demand. Wild.
