Did not sleep well last night.

My heart is broken, for Renee, for Alex, for their families, for Minneapolis.. for the country.

They were murdered, in broad daylight. This is not how life in a constitutional republic should be.

What is this madness? A rhetorical question because thoughtful and caring people have warned us for years that it could happen here.

Seeing this quote making the rounds and yes, it should be remembered:

“Get it all on record now — get the films — get the witnesses — because somewhere down the road of history some bastard will get up and say that this never happened.” — Dwight D. Eisenhower after the liberation of Ohrdruf concentration camp, April 1945

For 80 years, a river of digital and print ink, miles of film footage, hours of radio time have been devoted to the history of the 3R and other tyrannical governments and their associated wars and genocide. Thousands of people have devoted their time to learning, teaching, and remembering these histories.

And yet, and yet… People didn’t learn. Turns out, they didn’t want to learn.

Willful ignorance is more destructive than simple ignorance.

It’s so surreal.

The East Coast peeps said they’re hunkered down, bundled up for 1-5 F temperatures, and expecting 12 inches of snow. Meanwhile, over here, it’s 70 F and sunny.

And it’s so surreal to watch the images and video from Minneapolis and see what people are experiencing in below freezing temperatures yet. But they’re out there for their neighbors and for democracy.

This is indeed an inflection point. That poor man was killed on the street.

I hope the good and decent people of this country will stand up and say enough is enough. No more murders. No more violence.

RIP Renee.

RIP Alex.

Stay strong, Minneapolis.

Been watching her channel for a long time. Good stuff.

We need to finally learn from Black and Native Americans who have already been through experiences like these.

That last few words there got me thinking, a lot. I totally understand #emptythepews. The problem is though, we didn’t organize and establish a more tolerant version of our own.

Over the years, spiritually inclined people like myself learned to go silent because we understand how traumatized people are by the subject. But it’s sad; we missed an opportunity to establish something based on love.

Maybe there’s time and hope yet. But it must come from we, the people, from the bottom up.
