During today’s early morning reading hours, I finished the novel Nevada by Imogen Binnie.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After I got used to the writing style, I got into the story. I liked the first half of the book better, which seems to be a common reaction other readers have.

The author’s afterword is good too. Nevada is a landmark in trans and LGBTQ literature that was published in 2013, and well, a lot has happened since then.

I’m fine with the literary technique which uses a detached 3rd person perspective (and sometimes a 2nd person) with POV switches. Maria and James are dissociated from their physical selves so it makes sense they would live in their heads and ruminate.

Now will think about what to read next.

Do we choose an analog or a digital life? Are we all burning out on social media and the internet?

Doomscrolling for ten hours a day and arguing with bots of course is terrible for mental health. But I don’t think going totally offline is good either, given how embedded the technology is in daily life.

I still think returning to a Web 1.0 mindset helps with online burnout. Long form blogging and simple websites are still good ways to communicate and present what you care about.
