While working on my photo and fractal projects, I listen to podcasts that analyze pop culture. I have this drive to understand what’s going on in the zeitgeist and how the younger generations view issues.
I remember a moment from my youth when an older relative visited and told me the music I was listening to was terrible. Three things came out of that:
- The music I was listening to is now regarded as an avant garde classic. [1]
- While I still respected my relative and understood the hardship they had been through that contributed to their view of life, I was reluctant to share anything personal with them from that moment on.
- I vowed to NOT become an adult like that, one who dismissed the younger generation’s interests instead of understanding the context.
So maybe I go overboard a bit with the Skibidi joy but you know what? I’d rather give something a try to see if I like or not instead of just dismissing something out of hand.
And I don’t like something and understand I’m not the target audience? I put it down and move on with my life.
