Emotions - September 17, 1991
More of that classic 80s style production. Still Adult Contemporary but there’s more sophistication and variation.
The lead single still slaps. That’s when pop music was uplifting and fun. (Grandpa Simpson yells at clouds energy.)
At this time, I was starting a chapter in life… that didn’t work out. I remember the “Emotions” video but that’s about it. However, during the recent listen “Can’t Let Go” stood out as very familiar. It’s giving… a restaurant or bookstore I visited during that time. Vague memories of sitting in a cafeteria style restaurant while surrounded by soaring vocals. A beautiful song, sounds like there’s even a whistle register duet/layer?
“You’re So Cold” is a very cool song. I think this is the first time I heard her voice’s deeper register.
“The Wind” was a classy closer. Definitely can hear the jazz influence. Maybe Modern Jazz Quartet?
If I wanted to recommend an early-era MC album to someone, it would be this one.
