Keep moving, keep learning is my mantra for these 50+ years. At this age, you’re on the path to Elderhood (especially if you’re a woman and have made it through menopause).
Mileage always varies. I don’t want to minimize the suffering of my fellow Gen Xers and Gen Jonesers also going through the experience. Peri and meno are challenging.
I’m not young anymore and I’m fine with that. But giving up and saying, “Oh well,” doesn’t appeal to me. Keep moving, keep learning.
The main symptom I experience is hot flashes, which have graduated from occasional flashes to being hot all the time. In a warm climate, this is interesting to say the least, yet oddly enough, I’m sleeping better than ever. I had terrible insomnia during the peri years and now, I snooze quite well. (Maybe having a cat helps. 😸)
I’m aware that aging can bring physical and cognitive slow downs and I’m working on this, too. I’ve made definite changes with my sleeping, eating, and exercise patterns to keep my physical self going. Cutting back on sugar has been an immediate boost for physical and mental fitness.
Some of the slow down might happen because once you get to a certain age, you either think you’ve seen it all or you’ve heard it all before (when you really haven’t), or you take things for granted. Again, keep moving and keep learning.
I’m reinvesting my time and energy into activities I love like reading, writing, and composing music. This is an era when you conserve your energy and apply it to things that matter.
Keep moving, keep learning.
