The comeback album before Emancipation.

2002? Yeah, I missed this one, too. Really absorbed in my work then and I was in my “catch up on classical music” era to go with being a historian. Sometimes I fooled around on the Casio keyboard but that waned as I didn’t have much of a direction with making music at that time.

“Through the Rain” was an instant like, followed by “I Only Wanted.” I appreciate “Sunflowers for Alfred Roy” and why it’s the closer. “Lullaby” features her signature lush, layered vocals. Some interesting production techniques like the electronic backing vocals effects on “You Got Me” and “You Had Your Chance.” “Subtle Invitation” is a nice jazzy slice. “Bringing on the Heartbreak” is an attention-keeping combination of power rock anthem and gospel.

A quieter album for a reflective mood. This was a first time listen; I think it will grow on me.
