The Emancipation of Mimi - April 12, 2005
Ok, now we’re talking about a comeback and in the spring of 2005, I was definitely there for it!
Emanicpation contains several of my MC favorites starting with the opening trio of “It’s Like That,” “We Belong Together,” and “Shake it Off.” Other faves include “Stay the Night,” “Joy Ride,” and the closer “Fly Like a Bird.”
Good songs, sophisticated production, and a confident spirit. Overall, I still think this is her strongest album.
I have very fond memories of blasting Emancipation in the car while going about my business. This was an album for enjoying life and celebrating the good moments and I had a few things to celebrate in 2005, including career achievements and dating the guy I would eventually marry.
2005 was a banging year, a high point before things began to unravel.
