I appreciate the people educating others about cults and cultic thinking.

I could make many statements about the 3R, what drove the Germans, and how Adolf and his buddies manipulated them into seeing him as some kind of divine figure (who of course failed spectacularly in the end, because humans beings are not gods).

Easy to blame Adolf for fvcking things up. Easy to think being in a democracy makes you safe. But behind appearances, the underlying tactics are the same for all types of cults.

I mean, Jonestown... shudder.  When you see the reports about something like that, it lingers.

Because of these examples, I am allergic to large groups of people who proclaim allegiance to a public figure or a strict ideology. Cultic behavior seems to be worse than ever, thanks in part to social media and the societal collapse ushered in by the pandemic. 1

It’s one thing to follow trends like catchy pop songs and of-the-moment lipstick colors. But when people start wearing the same clothes/uniforms, chanting/singing the same song, and worshipping and handing over their autonomy to a mere human being, that's a cult.

  1. The relation between the Spanish Flu epidemic and the rise of the 3R is a whole topic unto itself. โ†ฉ๏ธŽ
