Sometimes I wonder where it all went wrong.

It’s fun to indulge in conspiracy theories:

What if the Maya were right and the world ended in 2012?
What if Harambe was the key player and his death ushered in an alternate timeline in 2016?
What if CERN did create a black hole and we all got sucked in to a weird hell realm?

Ok, these are all fanciful ideas suited for science fiction and fantasy.

The down to earth reality of what happened was a once in a century pandemic colliding with the juiced up algorithms of computing social media platforms, pulling people into media silos, echo chambers, and outright lies. An agreement on consensus reality, which more or less kept us together, unraveled.

This collision showed us we as a collective weren’t ready to deal with the pandemic and were too easily swayed by propaganda that was amplified by social media.

That’s where it went downhill.

I used to talk about living in the post-Cold War world, then the post-9/11 world. Now it’s about living in the post-pandemic, post consensus reality world, and what a bummer that is.
