While scrolling, I often see comments that thrift store shopping isn’t what it used to be, and yeah, I agree. Yet another experience that’s been entshittified.

I’ve been thrifting since my teen years from both necessity and choice. Putting together unique outfits on a budget was my jam. Even when I started earning enough to have more disposable income, the frugality and “make do” mindset was already established. Got many awesome outfits and costume jewelry that way.

More recently, the thrift stores I shopped at eventually went out of business, either due to retirement or the pandemic. The most convenient one currently is a Goodwill and I gotta say… eeeehhhhhh.

Sure, I can go to Ross, Marshall’s, or Burlington but the lines, man. I end up standing there for 20 minutes. I don’t have the patience for that every time.

I can still find things at Goodwill but I’ve also noticed the influx of Temu and Shein items as well as an unfortunate amount of torn and stained clothing. The last is too bad because even the dinkiest stores I went to at least had clean and intact clothing. Also, a lot of novelty t-shirts that look like they were discarded gifts.

My last purchase was a t-shirt for exercise that was $2.99, of good enough quality… and had a tiny ink stain, like from a ball point pen. Oh well. Exercising and hiking it is then. 🤷‍♀️

The upside is that Goodwill has become my source for buying books, especially popular fiction. I buy them, read, and then donate to LFLs. The circle of life, etc.

Anyway, I remember when this hit the charts:

The store looks like the one I shopped at for years. And yes, it was fvcking awesome.
