Needed a break and headed out to the Coachella Valley.

Usually if we’re going to spend a length of time there, we prefer to go when it’s cooler or at least supposedly cooler.

Well, ha ha, Nature turned up the thermostat up to the mid 90s F already.

Now this is the part when I tap my cane on the porch while sitting in my rocking chair, but consairn it all, I don’t remember the Valley being this hot in March. Back in my day, we enjoyed 80 degree weather in the early spring.

We got things done but oof, much of it was trudging around under the desert sun.

Photo might be overly photoshopped for effect, but yeah, that’s what it felt like.

Took camera and phone with me and now sorting through the pictures and videos. I’ve gotten so addicted to phoneography that my camera skills are rusty. Had to weed through some meh pictures to get to the better ones.

We also prefer to go before the Coachella festival crowds. Hope the valley gets the construction on 111 between Cat City and Palm Springs finished because aaarggghhhhh. I mean, Valley traffic is not as bad as LA traffic, but still, when you have basically two roads in and out, any jam is annoying AF.

Something I appreciate about the Valley is that is has a functioning mall, although many of the stores I used to shop at have closed. Taps cane on porch. Back in my day, I could buy an entire seasonal wardrobe at bargain prices.

I can still remember so well when I got the call to come to LA to start the next chapter of my life and then hastily running to the mall to get new clothes. Anyway, there are still good stores and restaurants there and, just as importantly, it’s air conditioned. I remember the old days when it finally got to 120 F in August and the weekends spent at the mall for exactly that reason.

Looking back, and I realize, this CA life has been a journey spanning almost 50 years. All those years ago, we drove from San Francisco and down the coast to Los Angeles. That trip changed my consciousness and eventually, my life.
