Also for World War II history, pictures from my recent trip to the Patton Museum which examines the role of the CA desert in training for the North Africa campaign.

I first visited the museum some years back and with this trip, I was impressed at how much they expanded and organized the collection and exhibits.

The museum’s new section presented a detailed narrative about Patton’s background, the origins of World War II, the entry of the U.S. into the war, and how the remote desert in eastern California and western Arizona was used to get troops acclimated to what they would face in North Africa.

Another room displayed a variety of artifacts such as this survival biscuit tin:

Of course, people come to see the tanks and that display was excellent.

The remains of the chapel and the surrounding desert reminds the visitor of the isolation of the region.

An excellent place to visit for both WWII and local history. Many thanks to the Greatest Generation for what they had to go through to save the world.
