Screenwriter and television producer Norman Lear turned 100 this year. As a member of the Greatest Generation, he's also a World War II veteran.
I've been reading up on his service in the 463rd Bombardment Group, his account of his reaction to Pearl Harbor, and as a crewmembers of a B-17.
As I've said before, I worry what will happen when the survivors, veterans, and eyewitnesses pass away. For decades, they've been our defense against ignorance and bigotry. We owe it to them to remember their service.
