May gray, right on cue! Today’s high will be 65 F and that’s fine with me.

Worked for a while on my dream journal and marveling at the healing aspect of dreams. I’ve kept track of my dreams for 35 years now and I appreciate being able to understand myself better.

Dreams seem to fall into three categories:

  1. Collective human experiences and fears: dreams of falling, flying, dangerous animals, weather, etc.

  2. Daily residue, whatever worry or annoyance is on someone’s mind: traffic jams, bill paying, jobs, etc.

  3. Personally, individually meaningful dreams including what Jung called the “big dream” a message from the unconscious at a crucial time in life.

I’ve also analyzed the dream recall ability. Going with another Jungian theory, the unconscious responds to our attitude toward us. If we intend to recall dreams, then that skill gets easier over time.

When I was most active with writing, I seemed to dream less. Since I switched my creative activity to photography and music, and read more at night, I seem to be dreaming more or at least recalling more.

The psyche wants to balance itself one way or the other. The focus on balance and the drive for wholeness is why I like Jungian psychology.

Dreams run like a river of wisdom beneath our waking lives. Dipping into them can be refreshing.
