My latest read was L.A. Weather by María Amparo Escandón. I gave it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
Years ago (like almost 30 years ago), I read the author’s previous book, Esperanza's Box of Saints. I enjoyed that book, and when I saw this book at a library sale, decided to pick it up.
From what I remember, Esperanza was a more focus narrative with a dizzying array of characters, events, and themes with pov and topic switches among the characters, in the form of a procession of calendar days.
The story covered Los Angeles neighborhood histories and gentrification, weather, climate, (especially the drought of the early and mid 2010s), Mexican and Jewish cuisine, interfaith relationships and parenthood, social media, celebrity, grief, and Beverly Hills shrinks.
I’d recommend the book to readers who are in to L.A. history, telenovelas, or books with a climate theme.
